Chinese Language Certification HSK

The Hanyu Shuiping Kaoshi (HSK) is the standardized test of Standard Chinese language proficiency of China for non-native speakers such as foreign students and overseas Chinese.

Just memorising the Chinese vocabulary is not enough, you need to enhance your fluency in the language. One of the way that you can do this is to read and listen more.

To start, this is a very good HSK book to start with. It consists of 15 short stories written in Simplified Chinese and pinyin. It also comes with free audio download so you can listen and read along. This will help you improve your pronunciation.

This book focus on using only HSK 1 vocabulary. So if you are at the HSK 1 level, you will definitely be able to read this book.

If you are at HSK 2 level then start with this very good HSK 2 level storybook.  It consists of 10 short stories written in Simplified Chinese and Pinyin with free audio files.

Learning Chinese

It might come as a surprise to you but increasingly, more and more people around the world are learning Chinese. This goes to show China’s influence on the rest of the world.

In terms of economy, China is one of the fastest growing economy despite slowing down from double digit growth to single digit growth.

Chinese is not an easy language to learn, because the same sounding word could have different meaning depending on the tone and there are 5 tones (including the neutral tone).
